Introducing the IDEAL Small Grants Program

Overview Every year NGOs, bilateral/multilateral donors, and host governments spend hundreds of million dollars through emergency and development programs to improve food and nutrition security outcomes among the most vulnerable communities. That funding is often highly restricted and earmarked for important activities that ensure families don’t go to bed hungry; but this can leave field-level implementing partners with limited flexible resources to develop new field-level tools, arrange knowledge sharing events, strengthen internal knowledge management systems or conduct innovative research projects that were not in the original work plan. IDEAL aims to support food and nutrition security stakeholders by offering small

Catalyzing Action & Agricultural Transformation in Africa: Taking the Pulse of CAADP

The Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) is the continental plan for agricultural transformation launched in 2003 by African countries to reduce poverty and increase food security on the continent. In 2013, African Heads of State re-committed to seven high-level goals and principles, called the Malabo Declaration, that span issues, policies, and programs relevant to agricultural transformation in Africa, including food security and resilience. Each year, CAADP stakeholders come together for an Africa-wide forum, called the Partnership Platform (PP), to review progress, dialogue on technical issues, share lessons learned, and drive mutual accountability to advance the CAADP Agenda. The CAADP

The Declining Ecosystem and its Impact on Global Food Systems

The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat all rely on biodiversity – but the demands of a growing population and the practices of unsustainable agriculture are compromising access to humanity’s most basic needs. This was the message from two recent reports launched by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations' (FAO) publications: Biodiversity for Sustainable Agriculture and The State of the World’s Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture. The reports detailed the impact of environmental degradation and the impact diminishing biodiversity has on vulnerable ecosystems and food systems, including agriculture and health. Once biodiversity

Making Trees Count: Measurement, Reporting and Verification of Agroforestry-Based Carbon

Agroforestry contributes to farmers' livelihoods and the ability to adapt to our changing climate. Agroforestry also sequesters carbon, contributing to climate change mitigation, but how much? Over a third (59 of 147) of developing countries have proposed agroforestry as a climate change mitigation activity to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). While countries have the ambition to expand agroforestry, their capabilities to measure, report and verify (MRV) agroforestry actions and their carbon impacts are limited. This webinar will: Assess countries' ambitions and capabilities to implement MRV in agroforestry Explore a user-friendly and cost-effective approach to identifying agroforestry
