Roadmap for the Operationalization of the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus in Cameroon
The 2016 World Humanitarian Summit and Agenda for Humanity aimed to improve collaboration in the humanitarian-development Nexus, expanded with Peace in the triple Nexus by United Nations resolutions. Cameroon, the initial volunteer, became a priority for the UN Joint Steering Committee on Humanitarian-Development Collaboration. In 2017, a group initiated the HDP Nexus, leading to the creation of the National Nexus Task Force in May 2019 for developing and operationalizing the approach at the community level. The 2019 OECD DAC Recommendation on the humanitarian, development, and peace Nexus emphasizes interlinkages to enhance collaboration and coherence, reduce vulnerability, address conflict root causes, and manage risks. In Cameroon, the National HDP Nexus Task Force, co-chaired by the UN Humanitarian Development Peace Coordinator and OCHA HDP Regional Advisor, includes over a hundred representatives from various sectors, emphasizing a bottom-up approach to create synergies between Humanitarian, Development, and Peacebuilding interventions in designated Convergence Areas.
