Pastoralist Livelihoods and Education Field Schools (PLEFS) is an inspiring example of humanitarian-development-peace nexus approach intervention: it saves lives and livelihoods and protects people against adverse effects of shocks affecting their food security; addresses multidimensional and structural challenges and contributes to essential development gains; and delivers critical peace interventions to mitigate the outbreak and escalation of conflicts. The learning brief, developed by FAO’s Knowledge Platform for Emergencies and Resilience, Conflict, and Peace Unit and the FAO office in South Sudan, unpacks PLEFS’ contributory pathways to sustaining peace and identifies opportunities to bring about transformation and establish new paradigms among pastoral communities.
