The RKSM is an initiative from USAID's Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance, Bureau of Resilience and Food Security and Kenya, and East Africa Mission, in collaboration with two USAID-funded activities: the Implementer-Led Design, Evidence, Analysis and Learning (IDEAL) Activity and the Resilience Learning Activity (RLA).

USAID: On behalf of the American people, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) promotes and demonstrates democratic values abroad and advances a free, peaceful, and prosperous world. In support of America’s foreign policy, USAID leads the U.S. government’s international development and disaster assistance through partnerships and investments that save lives, reduce poverty, strengthen democratic governance, and help people emerge from humanitarian crises and progress beyond assistance. Click here to learn more about USAID.

IGAD: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is a regional economic community (REC) that forms one of the building blocks of the African Union and is comprised of eight Member States, namely Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda. IGAD seeks to assist and complement the efforts of its Member States, through increased cooperation, to achieve food security and environmental protection, peace and security, and economic cooperation and integration.

IDEAL: The Implementer-Led Design, Evidence, Analysis and Learning (IDEAL) activity is funded by USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) and works to support the United States Government’s goal of improving food and nutrition security among the world’s most vulnerable households and communities. IDEAL addresses knowledge and capacity gaps expressed by the food and nutrition security implementing community, supporting them in the design and implementation of effective emergency and non-emergency food security activities. RLA: The Resilience Learning Activity (RLA) is a five-year activity funded by USAID/Kenya and East Africa. With the goal of strengthening resilience capacities and evidence-based resilience programming in the Horn of Africa, RLA supports regional, national, and local organizations and institutions in Northern Kenya, Somalia, and the Horn of Africa to undertake analysis while building their capacities for analytics, facilitating learning for adaptive management, and improving knowledge management and communications, advancing the objectives of USAID’s Journey to Self-Reliance (J2SR) and the Horn of Africa Regional Resilience Framework. RLA works closely with the Partnership for Resilience and Economic Growth (PREG), the Horn of Africa Resilience Network (HoRN), and the Somalia Resilience Partnership (SRP) to strengthen their ability to lead, manage, and advance collaboration, learning, and adapting (CLA) in resilience programming.
