The second phase of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) “Resilience in the Sahel – Enhanced” (RISE) initiative, referred to as RISE II, is being implemented from 2019 to 2025 in targeted zones of Burkina Faso and Niger. The initiative focuses on building resilience in the Sahel in the face of recurrent shocks, including climate shocks, economic shocks, conflict shocks, and health shocks such as those associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

This report contains findings from the analysis of the quantitative and qualitative data collected in the RISE II baseline survey conducted in December 2021/January 2022. The baseline survey is the first in a series of data collection activities that are part of the RISE II Impact Evaluation. The number of households included in the quantitative analysis is 3,545 in 153 villages. The qualitative data collection was conducted in a subset of the quantitative survey villages. It included 145 focus group discussions and 113 key informant interviews. Additionally, direct observation methods were employed in each village.
