HUG Your Baby: Building Parenting/Caregiver Skills for Improved Outcomes

Resource Type:
Documents

Presented by: Jan Tedder, Founder, H.U.G. Your Baby

Misunderstanding infants’ behavior undermines parents’ confidence, decreases breastfeeding success, interferes with bonding, and can contribute to neglect and abuse. Whereas improved caregiver skills may lead to reduced rates of malnutrition and child abuse, and lower risk of maternal depression.  This presentation provides participants with an introduction to a unique set of counseling skills for preventing and solving problems around breastfeeding, sleeping, crying, and attachment. Participants discussed possible applications for this innovative approach and ways it might be adapted, tested, taught and scaled up in international development settings.
